    Flat foot

Summary

Acquired flat foot refers to the collapse of the arch caused by the gradual weakening of the Achilles tendons and ligaments that maintain the arch of the foot. This is likely to happen in all age groups and is more common in women. Usually only one foot will happen, but some may cause both feet to happen.

cause

Acquired flat feet are usually developed gradually. It is more common among obese people. As individuals grow older, the strength and elasticity of tendons and ligaments that maintain the normal structure of the foot gradually decrease; the tibialis posterior tendons along the medial part of the ankle to the arch of the foot, due to the gradual increase in tension, lead to excessive stretching, or even tear, resulting in skeletal slippage and dislocation of the ligament site of action, began to appear outward and inward steps. The state eventually leads to complete collapse of the arch. In many families, acquired flat feet are familial.

Symptom

In some cases, acquired flat feet do not cause pain or other problems. But some people may feel intense pain. Many people have aches and pains in heels and feet, and swelling inside the feet. Prolonged standing symptoms aggravate foot fatigue. As the condition progresses, the pain may shift to the outside of the foot and may lead to ankle arthritis. Many people can not walk and run long distances due to foot pain and foot fatigue.

Treatment

Acquired flat feet can be treated in a variety of ways, including wearing the right shoes and boots, foot orthosis, ankle braces, or plaster. Anti-inflammatory drugs or restrictive steroid injections, rest, ice compresses and physical therapy can also temporarily relieve symptoms. For serious cases, surgery is needed.
