Orthopaedic insole and its mechanism of action
2016/07/04 16:31:39
What is orthopaedic insole? A simple definition is a cushion that can be used to correct and adjust walking posture in shoes.

The above definition is not only abstract and vague, but also does not fully summarize the function of orthopaedic insole. To sum up, orthopaedic insole has the following characteristics:

1. It is a foot and ankle medical specialist from a developed country of foot and ankle medicine. Through the study of foot biomechanics and foot lesions causing changes in the human body's biological force line, it designs and develops a cushion with supporting effect of longitudinal arch of foot.

2. The size of the arch of the foot is made according to the normal degree of the arch of the foot, which is suitable for the general population.

3. Orthopaedic insole is used to correct and improve walking gait and posture by supporting the arch of the foot. For example, through the correction of insoles can correct varus feet, valgus feet, in the "eight" son, outside the "eight" son and other bad walking posture;

4, orthopaedic insole can redistribute plantar pressure to treat some diseases of plantar. For example, foot pads, corns, tarsal tarsal arthritis, tarsal arthritis, etc.

5, orthopaedic insole can improve the lower limb force line and prevent senile osteoarthritis.

6. The angle of the orthotic insole when touching the ground through the foot and the change of negative focus make you feel more comfortable and effective when standing, walking, running and jumping.

According to the above functions, orthopaedic insoles are divided into many types and are made of various materials. However, the ultimate conclusion is that deformity insoles are through the improvement of sole function, relief of sole pressure, and ultimately to correct foot deformity and alleviate foot pain.

Orthopaedic insoles are made of different materials according to their functions. One is to try to improve foot function, usually with a rigid support pad; the other is mainly to protect the foot, usually with a soft support pad; and the third is to improve both function and protection, usually with a semi-rigid orthopedic pad.

Here are three kinds of support pads:

Rigid orthopedic pad:

Hard orthodontic pads are designed to control foot function. They are made of plastic and carbonized fibers and can be used in a variety of shoes. There are two ways to make it: one is based on the human body's normal arch, suitable for the general population, of course, this insole for those with foot problems the effect is slightly worse; the other is based on personal footwork to make a plaster model, through computer testing and analysis, made specially, this is most suitable for everyone Body.

According to the length of the rigid insole is divided into two kinds of full-length, that is, from heel to toe; one is 3/4 length, according to the foot there are different problems and make different length insoles. This rigid insole is normally placed in shoes with 2 cm high heels, and, because of its rigid material, it is necessary to increase the size of the shoes appropriately.

Hard insole design generally does not deform. In addition, material selection is not easy to damage.

The function of hard insole is to control the activity of joints to achieve the therapeutic effect on foot diseases. It mainly controls the two joints of the foot, one is the ankle, through the supporting role of the arch of the foot, to improve the ankle's non-parallel force, increase its stability, reduce ankle injury; the other is to control the movement function of the tarsal facet joint, reduce its strain, prevent the occurrence of traumatic inflammation; in addition, lower limb sprain And pain is often caused by changes in the biomechanical lines of the lower extremities due to abnormal foot function. In this case, corrective insoles can eliminate these symptoms by improving the biomechanical lines of the lower extremities.

Soft orthopedic pad:

Usually made of soft, compressible materials, and can adapt to the shape of the foot at any time in the movement, does not cause any pressure on the foot.

Any good soft cushion design can better adapt to the foot shape. It can absorb shock, increase balance, cushion the weight of the pressure, relieve the pressure caused by intense exercise, in addition, can reduce the sole of a point of concentrated force. It is also divided into two lengths: one is full length, that is, from heel to toe; the other is 3/4 length, according to the foot there are different problems and make different lengths of insoles.

It is also suitable for rheumatoid arthritis and deformed feet. It protects the lateral margin of the foot, which lacks adipose tissue. It is more widely used in diabetic foot.

Its disadvantage is that it is easy to compress and change, and is easy to be worn. Because it can be compressed, it can be applied to all kinds of shoes, providing greater space for the toes.

Semi rigid orthopedic pad: it is designed to provide a good dynamic balance for the foot when it moves and walks. This insole not only has a good arch support function, can make the foot in the normal functional position, so that muscles and tendons to better play its role in motion; and can be well adapted to the foot shape, will not cause any pressure on the foot. The semi hard correction insole has certain functions and good protection for feet. Therefore, it is more suitable for athletes to wear, but it is recommended to do different sports to choose different orthopedic pads. This semi rigid orthopedic pad is made of several layers of soft material with rigid material backing.

The mechanism of orthopaedic insoles in several diseases is introduced.

1. Plantar aponeurosis: After the application of orthopedic insoles, the tension of plantar aponeurosis can be obviously relieved and the strain can be reduced, so as to eliminate local inflammation and relieve pain.

2. Calcaneal spurs: After the application of orthotic insoles, the force on the sole is redistributed, the load on the heel is reduced, the local stimulation is reduced, and the local inflammation is eliminated and the pain is relieved.

3. Achilles tendinitis: Achilles tendinitis occurs in addition to the shoe squeeze, friction this external factor, most patients have ankle twist, resulting in abnormal force Achilles tendon attachment. After applying the orthotic insole, the distortion of the ankle joint is corrected so that the Achilles tendon is under normal stress, and the Achilles tendinitis can heal spontaneously over time.

4. Metatarsal pain and painful corpus callosum (painful footpad): After applying orthotic footpads, the arch of the foot is reconstructed, so that the load on the sole of the foot is evenly distributed and the stress on the forefoot is reduced. There is also an orthodontic insole with a transverse arch supporting pad at the front, which can reshape the transverse arch and elevate the collapsed metatarsal bones to varying degrees. This not only can effectively alleviate the pain in the forefoot, but also can make the painful corpus callosum soften slowly until it disappears.

5. Habitual ankle sprain: Habitual ankle sprain patients, not only the strength of ankle ligaments on both sides of the imbalance, and some even have talus joint surface tilt. Orthopedic insoles can not only balance the strength of the ligaments on both sides of the ankle, but also improve the tilt angle of the talus joint surface to prevent ankle sprain.

6. Pain of tarsometatarsal arthritis and tarsometatarsal osteoarthritis: The occurrence of tarsometatarsal arthritis and tarsometatarsal osteoarthritis, in addition to the foot muscle, ligament aging, its ability to maintain the structure of the tarsometatarsal joint weakened, making it more vulnerable to strain, in some people, there is a structural disorder or loosening of the tarsal joint. When the orthotic insole is applied, the supporting effect of the insole on the arch of the foot can stabilize the joint structure, thus the occurrence of traumatic inflammation and the elimination of clinical pain symptoms.

7. Preventing the occurrence of senile degenerative osteoarthropathy (knee joint, hip joint, lower waist): Wearing orthotic insoles for a long time can prevent senile osteoarthropathy by improving the force line of the lower limbs, balancing the force on the joints, adjusting the gait and posture of walking.

8. Hallux valgus: The aggravation of hallux valgus is mainly caused by the pulling of plantar muscles. After applying orthotic insoles, it can effectively relieve the strength of plantar muscles, thereby delaying the aggravation of hallux valgus.

In short, orthotic insoles can be used in many ankle and foot diseases, but there are different mechanisms of action, which are not listed here.
